Larkana Jail operation called off as 70 prisoners surrender

While inmates earlier tortured to death the policeman they had taken hostage. Police resorted to heavy shelling as the inmates’ protest entered 38th day. Many of the inmates fainted as a result.Earlier prisoners went on rooftops and set fire to their beddings. They demanded that the prisoners shifted to other jails be brought back, else their protest would continue.The jail administration called in Rangers and police reinforcement at 5 in the morning. The security forces opened aerial firing and tear-gassed the inmates. The inmates retaliated by pelting stones. DSP Amin Khosa was injured while four policemen were taken hostage.
