Govt defies SC orders, refuses to restore Zafar Qureshi

Hearing the NICL case, the SC had ordered the government to suspend all departmental inquiries initiated against Zafar. However, the Attorney General, on appearing in the court after the mid-day break, told the court that the departmental action couldn’t be suspended against Zafar since he was charged with breaching the code of conduct. The SC gave the AG till tomorrow to restore Zafar.Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry asked why not the matter be referred for investigation by a High Court judge on account of meddling in the judicial affairs. He said whether all the accused would now seek justice through advertisements in violation of the law of the land. The CJ said courts couldn’t be browbeaten.The AG presented the notification withdrawing transfer orders of four FIA officials as demanded by the court. The CJ said that NICL case be handed over to these officials forthwith.
