Summary Acting Governor Sindh Nisar Khurro has signed the ordinance to restore commissionerate system.

CM Qaim Ali Shah said that by restoring the Local Government Ordinance 1979, the government has fulfilled the longstanding demand of the people.The Sindh government has also re-promulgated the Police Act 1861, abolishing the Police Order 2002 with immediate effect.Under the commissionerate system, Karachi will have five administrative districts headed by one commissioner. Every district will have one deputy commissioner as administrative head. Karachi and Hyderabad’s administrators would also be removed under the new system.With the re-promulgation of the Police Act 1861, the police’s separate wings of investigation and operations would cease to exist as separate branches.The CM said the new laws were promulgated in the tenure of a dictator to further his own agenda.The Local Government Ordinance 2001 was promulgated in president Musharraf’s tenure.
