Summary The strike by the KESC employees and the limited gas supply has worsened the load shedding situation
In some parts of the city, unannounced load shedding is up to 12 to 14 hours as people are unable to sleep in the heat. The load shedding has started to affect the everyday lives of the people as many protest against the unannounced load shedding throughout the night. The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) blamed the limited gas supply for the increased load shedding in Karachi as water becomes scarce in some areas. KESC officials said that until the gas supply is limited the electricity production would also be limited as the situation is likely to continue. The strike by the KESC employees has also worsened the situation. Line faults along with other technical faults in some areas have not been resolved as the workers are on strike. Dhabeji and Pipri Water Pumping Station are closed which is why water supply in Orangi Town, Bin Qasim Town, Korangi, Landhi and several other areas was scarce.
