Summary As a practical step towards policy shift, Pakistan has told the US to leave Shamsi air base.

The Shamsi air base was used by US troops for drone strikes. The Coalition Support Fund virtually stands frozen and Pakistan is compelled to shift its policy, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar said on Wednesday. We have told them (US officials) to leave the air base, Mukhtar told a group of journalists in Rawalpindi. He said no one, including ISPR DG Gen Pasha or COAS Gen Kayani, is indispensible. General Pasha himself had offered resignation to the joint sitting of the parliament, he said. The defence minister said suppose Mullah Omar was in Pakistan, but he must have fled after the Abbottabad raid. He said Osama bin Laden’s wives and children would be repatriated to another country in the coming days. This trust deficit (between the US and Pakistan) could be reduced by sitting together and taking joint actions, Mukhtar said.
