Summary LHC rejected the writ petition of the Sharifs against special excise duty on sugar mills.
Twenty sugar mills had got a stay order against 2.5% special excise duty which had been imposed without signature of the President. The division bench of the LHC comprising Justice Umer Ata Bandyal and Justice Asad Munir rejected the writ petitions after hearing both parties.The prestigious judges said in their judgment that parliament was authorised to impose every kind of taxes.
