Summary The United States has decided to stand by its policy of drone attacks in Pakistan.

While reviewing the Pakistan and Afghanistan situation in the monthly meeting held at the White House this week, it was decided that the United States would not change its policy of drone attacks in the tribal areas of Pakistan.The US was quick to suggest that if the new strategy of information sharing between both the countries for attacks on targets was successful, the policy could be changed.According to sources, US Ambassador Cameron Munter was of the opinion that if the Pakistani authorities cannot start the reconciliation process with the Taliban due to the drone attacks, then the attacks should temporarily be stopped.Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen agreed with Cameron Munter’s point of view but the US Vice President Joe Biden along with US National Security Advisor Tom Donilon and General David Petraeus were not in favour of changing the drone attacks policy for dialogue with the Taliban.According to sources, it was decided that before stopping the drone attacks, Information exchange process with the Pakistani Intelligence agencies should be improved. The drone attacks would not stop until the new joint strategy of the US and Pakistani intelligence agencies show positive results.
