Summary Dar claims that he can win the election if votes of independent members are not taken into account.
The opposition parties, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) boycotted the Senate session on Tuesday to protest the election of Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri as the opposition leader.Talking to the media, Prof Khursheed Ahmed of the Jamaat-e-Islami said that he had no differences with Maulana Haidri, but decision should be based on justice and fair play. He said that all options were open if the decision was not withdrawn.Raja Zafarul Haq of the PML-N said that boycott of the Senate would continue until the withdrawal of the decision.Senator Islaq Dar of the PML-N said that nine members, who voted for Haidri, were the government allies but were shown as the opposition members. Dar claimed that he would win the elections if the votes of independent members were not counted in his or Haidri’s favour.Senate chairman Farooq H Naek said that five members of the PML-Q made a separate group in the Senate, but their votes could not be considered as of the opposition after joining of the Q-league with the government.
