ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Power Sector Inquiry Committee has submitted proposals for improvement in the power sector to the Prime Minister. The committee has recommended a forensic audit of the power plants for investigation of under-invoicing by the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

According to the document, the Inquiry Committee has recommended a forensic audit of the power plants to confirm the use of fuel and misreporting by the power plants to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

The committee has recommended to Prime Minister Imran Khan that IPPs running on fuel should be audited and a dialogue between all relevant bodies should be initiated on the issue of overcharging by the power plants.

The Inquiry Committee has also said that the issue of cost of electricity should be resolved through mutual consultation should resolve. Moreover, a forensic audit of IPPs taking kickbacks and illegal commissions on fuel should also be conducted.

The Inquiry Committee also proposes to take appropriate action against misinformation by IPPs at any level. Five year National Electricity Plans should be prepared with consultation between federal and provincial governments, while the Power Division should be restructured into a purely technical ministry, the committee recommended.
