The Flood Commission, which was constituted to investigate the damages caused by floods last year, presented its report before the Supreme Court on Monday.According to the report, most of the damage was caused by watercourses situated below the motorway in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The report also said that flood affectees were not given help in time.Had Munda Dam been constructed, there would have not been flood devastation at a large scale, the report said. The report said that the Sindh chief and irrigation secretaries had tried to conceal the facts while irregularities were found in the Sindh Irrigation Department. The commission recommended a 10-year audit of the department.During the hearing of the case, a three-member Supreme Court bench ordered that the report should be translated into Urdu and be made public.The report indicated that Tori Bund had not been repaired for the last many years. The report also said that protective dykes were ignored during floods.The report said locals were occupying thousands of acres land in Katcha area. The chief justice said that further advice on the commission report will be issued tomorrow.
