Summary Electricity tariff expected to rise after the subsidy of Rs 210 billion on electricity was ended.
Electricity tariff in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to rise while electricity distribution companies in Punjab sustaining losses are also going to increase the tariff. According to the budget documents, in the current fiscal year, the federal government gave subsidies of Rs 395.8 billion. In the next fiscal year, the government has allotted Rs 166.4 billion for subsidies after cutting Rs 229.4 billion.According to the documents, subsidy of Rs 200 billion was cut to eliminate the tariff differences between the KESC and the electricity distribution companies. A subsidy of Rs 3 billion on sugar through the sales from utility stores has also been cut. The size of the Ramadan package has been increased from Rs 700 million to Rs 1 billion.
