Judiciary has to decide against govt to maintain rule of law

Addressing a full court reference on the occasion of Justice Raja Fiaz’ retirement, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that there was a complete division of powers among the institutions adding that judiciary is supreme. He observed that misuse of powers by government institutions create instability and maladministration in the society. He stated that the Parliament and Executive should work for the rule of law.He also dwelled on the services rendered by justice Raja Fiaz and said that his unbiased verdicts strengthened the bar-bench relationships.He said that judiciary should be free so that it could resolve the grievances of the common man.SBA President Asma Jahangir said that the lawyers were facing problems due to poor case management and important issues were being kept on hold for many days.
