Summary WikiLeaks has made startling revelations about Pakistani politicians in the newly released cables.
According to WikiLeaks, Asif Ali Zardari had said that he did not want to give the office of president to anyone else. He said that Musharraf had to leave Presidency.During a conversation with US ambassador Anne Patterson, Zardari asked her to provide him security as he was out of funds to afford a security team. He alleged that intelligence agencies had orchestrated firing on his residence and he feels threatened by Inter Service Intelligence chief Nadeem Taj, who takes him as a goof.On one occasion, Zardari said that Musharraf wanted to strike a deal between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Q-League. He also said that Musharraf burdened him with cases without knowing that he (Zardari) was his “lifeline”.Zardari told Patterson that the National Reconciliation Ordinance should have to be protected as court could declare it as illegal. Zardari also opined that reinstatement of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would benefit PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif.He said that by-elections should be postponed to stop Nawaz Sharif while pressure could be built on him (Nawaz) from London and Abu Dhabi. Zardari also said that he could not break deal with Nawaz Sharif otherwise Musharraf and Q-League chief Shujaat would manage a political demise of him.Another cable reveals that Musharraf said that the PPP would resolve the issue of Justice Chaudhry and that he did not care about it. Musharraf also said that Zardari did not care about his office. He said that the MQM had demanded a big price for deal with the PPP, and that he would not allow abolishment of Article 58(2)-B at any cost.Another cable reveals that Malik Qayyum and Attorney General Makhdoom Ali Khan were responsible for spoiling Justice Iftikhar’s case. America was trying to remove the attorney general since 2006. Makhdoom had refused to support a controversial law of investment.
