Summary The Supreme Court has directed the Balochistan government to award contract as per law.
While vacating the stay against the contracting company, the court said the provincial government can award the contract to any company. The goldmine was discovered by a foreign company but court was moved against it. The petitioners contended awarding this contract to foreign country tantamount to compromising the national interests. They also contended the contract of a very precious mine that was awarded against a paltry amount. Noted scientists Dr Samar Mubarakmand told the court Pakistan has the means to exploit the mineral. The court ordered the stay on February 8 and stopped the work. While vacating the stay and allowing the provincial government to award the contract as per law, the SC said the main case will remain adjourned in the court. The foreign company contends since it discovered the gold, it has the right to dig it out. Company’s attorney Khalid Anwar said if the company was barred, the foreign investors would be discouraged.The main case would remain adjourned for indefinite period in the court.
