Students of University of Sciences and Technology have produced low-priced bio-fuel, which is 200 percent cheaper than diesel. The university’s vehicles and generators are running on bio-diesel. Import of petroleum products are on the rise in Pakistan and country’s import bill has reached $7 billion, putting negative impact on economy.The university’s School of Chemical and Material Engineering has presented the solution of people’s problems after successful experiment of bio-diesel production. Bio-fuel is being prepared at Rs 25 per litre in NUST which is cheaper than diesel. Seeds are obtained from Jatropha plant. Its oil is used in process of making bio-diesel. This plant can be planted in any area including desert. At least 2,000 litres bio-diesel can be produced from the plant planted in one acre land.
