Summary Haqqani said that both the countries should continue talks to reduce the trust deficit.
Pakistani delegation led by Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir met with Special US representative for Pakistan Marc Grossman and discussed different proposals to improve ties between the two countries. Pakistani Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani, Deputy Chief of Mission Altaf Gardezi, Foreign Office’s spokesperson Tehmina Janjua and other officials were among the Pakistani delegation.Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Hussain Haqqani said that Pakistan presented its clear stance on the issue of drone attacks while the United States did not give a definite answer. Haqqani said that Pakistan has sacrificed a lot in operation against militants and terrorists. He said that why would the Inter-Services intelligence support the terrorists who attacked the General Head Quarters. Haqqani said on the occasion that both the countries should continue talks to reduce the trust deficit. He also said that Marc Grossman would be visiting Pakistani next month. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took time out for an unscheduled meeting with the Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir. She said that a democratic and stable Pakistan is important for the region and the US will work with Pakistan to ensure success in this regard. Hillary also said that the US is aware of the needs of Pakistan.Pak-US ties and strategic situation came under the discussion in the meeting. Analysts are of the view that Pak, US cooperation was vital to get a result-oriented end of the Afghan war. They said that tensions created after the arrest of Raymond Davis should be eliminated for this purpose.
