(Dunya News) – With temperatures soaring across Sindh and the port city of Karachi, the department of health has issued a heatstroke alert across government hospitals of the city.

In Karachi, all civil hospitals have declared an emergency while staff will be on duty as their days off have been revoked.

Karachi’s largest hospital, Jinnah Hospital, has set up a ‘Heatwave Centre’ to cater to heatstroke patients.

“We have created a separate ward for heatstroke patients and we also have a cooling area where air conditioners have been installed to keep people in there,” said Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital, Seemi Jamali.

Residents demanded that government should install drinking water coolers near the bus stops.

Doctors have advised people to take precautions to avoid heatstroke. Karachiites have been advised to stay indoors and avoid direct sunlight, to stay hydrated and cover their heads while they are outside.
