Summary The court allowed Sharif family members to leave after the completion of arguments.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Lawyer of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday has completed cross-examination of head of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia.
During the hearing headed by Justice Mohammad Bashir, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar appeared in accountability court in National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Avenfield reference.
The court allowed Sharif family members to leave after the completion of counsel Amjad Pervez’s arguments.
While talking to media, Nawaz Sharif has dismissed chances of corruption in the ongoing cases against him and his family. “Allegations of corruption of billions were leveled against me but nothing has been proven so far,” he said.
He said that whatever they had was bought from personal money and not from the national exchequer. He said that if there is no corruption, this series of vindictive cases need to stop.
Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz also said that there is no point in prolonging the cases any further after the testimony received yesterday. She said that the allegation of London flats being in her name was completely baseless.
SC disqualified Sharif from office in July over unreported sources of annual income of about $10,000, a salary the former premier denies ever receiving. The high court also ordered the NAB to investigate and conduct a trial into the Sharif family’s wider finances, including the London properties.
Sharif was also ousted from the presidency of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, which elected close ally Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as prime minister after Sharif was disqualified.
