Summary Prosecution witnesses will record their statements in today's hearing.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar on Monday has appeared in accountability court in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.

During the hearing headed by Justice Mohammad Bashir, Nawaz Sharif was allowed to leave the proceeding due to his bad health while other members of Sharif family will be present in the court.

Prosecution witnesses Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) producer of current affairs Shah Mahmood, Sub-Inspector in NAB police Lahore Umar Daraz and Deputy Director NAB Rawalpindi Rizwan Khan will record their statements. Defence lawyer Khawaja Harris will also cross-examine the statements.

Earlier, prosecution witness Wajid Zia, former head of the Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT), had appeared in NAB court.

Witness Sunil Ijaz also recorded his statements in Al-Azizia reference while defence lawyer Khawaja Harris also completed cross-examination. The witness said he is branch manager at Sharif Education Complex Trust in Lahore, adding that he had appeared in NAB on January 23, 2018.

On the other hand, witness Abdul Hanan in Flagship Investment reference also confessed to have given details of money came from Hill Metal to NAB. I prepared system generated documents, he added.

The witness said that three staff members presented the required record to the accountability officials.

The court had also rejected the petition of Nawaz Sharif to club the statement of Panama JIT chief head Wajid Zia as witness in three references against him.

Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Harris reasoned that Islamabad High Court had ordered to merge the statement of witness in all-three references. Our defence will be weakned if Zia’s statement is separated, he said, adding that the witness is clever enough to strengthen his statement.

Prosecutor of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sardar Muzaffar opposed Nawaz’s petition, reasoning that the ex-PM is submitting ineffective petitions to slow down the case. He requested the court to reject the petition.
