Summary Kashmir Day was first observed on February 5, 1990.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Kashmir Day is on Monday (today) being observed in Pakistan and across the world to express solidarity with Kashmiris who are suffering at the hands of Indian Army.

The purpose of this day is not only to raise voice against Indian brutality in the occupied land of Kashmir, but also to highlight their victimization in front of international community.

On this day, people of Pakistan make human chain by joining hands at all entry and exit points that link Kashmir with Pakistan, and conduct rallies across the country to express solidarity.



Kashmir Day was first observed on February 5, 1990 after then prime minister Benazir Bhutto announced to practice it on national level upon Qazi Hussain Ahmad’s appeal. 

It is worth mentioning here that Indian forces have been continuing their violence in Kashmir for past 28 years during which 95 thousand Kashmiris were killed by more than six lac army personnel.


President, Prime Minister reiterate support to Kashmiris’ struggle


President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the dream of peace and prosperity in the region will remain elusive without resolving the Kashmir dispute.

In their messages on Kashmir Solidarity Day, they called upon the international community to urge India to respect the Human Rights Charter, put an immediate end to gross human rights violations in the occupied Kashmir.

In his message, President Mamnoon Hussain said Pakistan reiterates its unwavering political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Occupied Kashmir in their struggle for self-determination right in accordance with UN resolutions.

The Prime Minister said the resolution of Kashmir dispute is essential for regional peace and development.


Gilani & others hail Pakistan’s support to Kashmir cause


In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani has expressed gratitude to government of Pakistan and its people for their unflinching support to the people of Jammu Kashmir who are carrying on their just struggle for the past seven decades to achieve their inalienable right to self-determination.

Syed Ali Gilani in a message on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, today, said people of Jammu and Kashmir are challenging a big power and Pakistan is the only country that extends its continuous support to their cause.

“We are highly thankful to Pakistan for its categorical support and hope the country plays more effective role in this regard by activating all its embassies and allocating them the task of highlighting Kashmir issue and human rights violations,” Syed Ali Gilani said.

He said Kashmir is an internationally accepted issue. He also paid tributes to former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Qazi Hussain Ahmad for his supreme services for the Kashmir cause.

Syed Ali Gilani said after the executions of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt, Burhan Wani’s martyrdom gave a new light to the movement. He reiterated that Kashmiris will fight for their rights on international platforms instead of adopting any apologetic stance.

Mishal Malik, wife of Kashmiri leader Yaseen Malik, also promised not to relax until getting freedom from India.

Other Hurriyat leaders including deputy Grand Mufti, Nasirul Islam, Hilal Ahmad War, Hakeem Abdur Rasheed, Mir Shahid Saleem, Bilal Siddiqui, Farida Behanji, Yasmeen Raja, Fazle Haq Qureshi, Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Javed Ahmad Mir, Imtiaz Reshi, Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Ghulam Nabi War, Muslim League, Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement Chairman and Muhammad Shafi Lone in their messages also thanked Pakistan for observing the day.
