Summary FO spokesperson said mother, wife of the convicted Indian spy will come to Pakistan on December 25

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav will meet his wife and mother on December 25, the Foreign Office (FO) confirmed on late Saturday.

In the statement, FO spokesperson Mohammad Faisal told that India confirmed the plans of arrival of Jadhav’s mother and wife. They will arrive on December 25 and leave on the same day along with Indian Deputy High Commissioner (DHC).

“India informs that the mother and wife of Commander Jadhav will arrive by commercial flight on 25 Dec and leave the same day. Indian DHC in Islamabad will be the accompanying diplomat,” FO spokesperson tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan had cautioned Indian government on Saturday over convicted spy Kulbhushan Jadhav’s meeting with wife and mother as offered by Pakistan in November on humanitarian grounds.

Sources have reported that Pakistan has sought a clear reply from Indian government over the offer by midnight tonight lest the offer would be withdrawn.

Reportedly, the government needs to finalise arrangements for the meeting after India’s reply. The spy who was tried by a military court and sentenced to death in late 2016 is needed to be shifted to Foreign Office (FO) for the meeting and security arrangements in this regard are to be ensured.

However, Indian government has delayed a clear response over the issue for weeks after Pakistan extended the offer on “purely humanitarian grounds”.

It should also be mentioned here that this is not the last meeting of the spy with his family. FO has stated that Pakistan has nothing to hide which is why Indian media was permitted to cover the meeting.

A diplomatic official from the Indian High Commission in Pakistan would accompany Jadhav from the airport till the end of the meeting.

"The Government of Pakistan has decided to arrange a meeting of Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav with his wife, in Pakistan, purely on humanitarian grounds. A Note Verbale to this effect has been sent to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad," Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in November.

The convicted spy

Jadhav, an in-service Indian navy officer had illegally crossed into Pakistan from Iran and confessed to have been tasked by Indian intelligence agency to damage China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and fan unrest in Balochistan and parts of Pakistan.

He was apprehended hours after his entry in Pakistan on March 3, 2016.

Jadhav was tried in a military court which sentenced the spy to death however the issue was taken to International Court of Justice (ICJ) earlier this year which stayed his execution.

Pakistan and India have filed replies with the ICJ and the case is under hearing.
