Piracy in Eden Gulf, Red Sea to be discussed with host countries: PM

Summary Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday has asked the Naval Staff Chief Admiral Noman Bashir to take up the issue of piracy in the Gulf of Eden and Red Sea with the host countries.

During a meeting with Admiral Noman Bashir, Yousuf Raza Gilani said that the government has allocated adequate resources to equip them with state-of-the-art technologies. He also issued instructions to the foreign office for the repatriation of the abducted shipmen. He observed that extending command to Pakistan of anti-piracy multinational task force was manifestation of the trust of international community in efforts of Pakistan navy to maintain peace in the region.Gilani assured the Naval Chief that government would introduce bill in the parliament to legislate on anti-piracy issue for giving the Pakistan navy proper mandate to discharge their responsibilities in this regard.The Naval Chief briefed the Prime Minister about “Amn Exercise” to be held in March.
