Pakistan summons India's deputy HC after 2 civilians killed in LoC firing

Summary The deliberate targeting of civilians is deplorable, the Foreign Office stated.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner to lodge protest against yesterday’s unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian troops at LoC, resulting in deaths of two civilians.

“The Director General (SA & SAARC) summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces in Baroh and Tandar Sectors on 18 July 2017, resulting in Shahadat of 2 civilians, including one woman in Barho Sector and a man in Tandar Sector, and injuries to 6 others,” the Foreign Office said in a press release.

“The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws,” the FO stated.

The Director General urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 Ceasefire arrangement; investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations; instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC.

He also urged that the Indian side should permit UNMOGIP to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
