Summary Javed Jabbar conversed with Kamran Khan in programme, 'Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath'
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Former minister for information, Javed Jabbar has called for the institutions concerned and the parliament to maintain a tighter check on media content in backdrop of ARY licenses’ revocation in the United Kingdom.
Javed Jabbar conversed with Kamran Khan in programme, ‘Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath’.
The criticism over Pakistan’s media watchdogs, standing committees of information and broadcasting, the parliament, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) by the ex-minister has come in after licenses of six television channels of ARY media group were revoked in UK last month.
Ofcom, a media regulatory authority in UK stated that ARY channels had ceased to provide the licensed services.
“ARY Network had ceased trading on Dec 31, 2016, and had been placed into voluntary liquidation on Jan 12, 2017,” stated Ofcom.
In December, a British court ruled that ARY defamed Jang group’s Editor-in-Chief, Mir Shakeelur Rehman by accusing him of having links with foreign agencies and receiving covert funds to promote agenda.
Besides heavy fine, ARY was ordered by the court to air summary of the judgment.
