Summary Regulatory authorities in Pakistan have been brought under government control, says Iftikhar Ahmad

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Senior analyst Iftikhar Ahmad has on Thursday said that corruption is a non-issue. He said that the real issue was the parallel economy in the country that was ruining our finances.

Talking on Dunya News program ‘On the Front’, Iftikhar Ahmad said that the opposition and the government were barking the wrong tree as corruption was hardly an issue in the country. He said that the two were actually fighting for power against each other.

“The elections are just about 400 away today. I would want these people to tell me how the inflation could be controlled. How are they going to control the price of sugar in Pakistan? The regulatory authorities in the country have been brought under government control. How do you expect to keep the prices under check now?”

“And now the CNG and petrol pump owners have stated that they’ll decide about the prices on their own. How are they going to control it? I wish they could tell us this.”

He said that the country actually had a parallel economy. “Go to any shopping mall and you’ll see luxury items on sale that are actually banned in Pakistan. Can’t they see that? It’s a parallel economy in this country being run and all these people are worried about is Panama Leaks kind of distractions”, he said.

Iftikhar also held the opposition responsible for the state of affairs. He said that it was opposition’s duty to keep check on the major issues of the country. “It was their duty to steer the debate into the direction where it actually helped the common man in Pakistan. Instead, they are discussing non-issues”, he said.
