Karachi: Crackdown against pillion riders, 140 arrested

Summary 140 people were arrested due to pillion riding, motorcycles were also confiscated

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Police did a crackdown against pillion riders on Saturday night as they arrested 140 motorcyclists, reported Dunya News.

The ban was imposed on pillion riding by Sindh interior ministry due to security issues in Moharram and action was taken in night against those found doing pillion riding.

Their motorcycles were also confiscated and they were arrested in areas of Defence, Darakshan, Gulshan Iqbal, Aziz Bhatti, PIB Colony, New Town and Mehmoodabad.

First Information Report (FIR) was registered against atleast 150 men who were unaware of the ban.

Afterwards, atleast 23 were released by the court on bail worth Rs5000.

The citizens said that the ban have produced difficulties for them as they now have to use the public transport.

They argued that the government should enhance their performance instead of imposing the bans.
