Summary ECP accepted PTI's demand not to borrow ROs from provincial govts, rejected deployment of army
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Tuesday accepted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) demand of not borrowing Returning Officers (RO) from provincial governments for by-elections in Punjab and Sindh. However, the ECP rejected the demand to deploy army personnel, reported Dunya News.
According to details, PTI’s demand to not appoint ROs from provincial government for six by-elections in Punjab and Sindh has been accepted by ECP. ECP also made the deployment of army personnel at polling stations conditional to the reports filed by the ROs. The commission decided to appoint its own officers as ROs for these by-elections.
The ECP officials stated that army cannot be deployed at the polling stations upon the demand of some political party but it can be made conditional to the reports submitted by the respective ROs.
