Summary ECP is functional after the recruitment of members, said Additional Advocate General.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the suo motu case pertaining to dysfunctionality of Election Commission of Pakistan over appointment of provincial members.
During the hearing, the court said that Additional Advocate General has told that ECP is now functional after the recruitment of news provincial members.
The court subsequently disposed of the case over the statement of Additional Advocate General.
Earlier, four newly appointed members of ECP took oath of their offices in Islamabad.
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza administered the oath to Justice (r) Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi from Punjab, Justice (r) Irshad Qaiser from Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Justice (r) Shakeel Ahmed Baloch from Balochistan and Abdul Ghaffar Soomro from Sindh.
President Mamnoon Hussain had confirmed their appointments under Article 218(2)(b) of the Constitution.
The summary for appointments was forwarded by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after a parliamentary committee comprising twelve members of the government and opposition approved names of the new ECP members.
