Summary Authorities have warned that second spell of monsoon downpour could waterlog roads

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Meteorological department has forecast 100mm rains and gusts blowing at around 100 kilometre per hour in coastal areas today and tomorrow, reported Dunya News on Tuesday.

Home Minister has ordered police to remain alert to counter flood situation besides other departments concerned.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the low pressure of air created at the Bay of Bengal is heading towards Sindh’s coastal areas after hitting eastern parts of India.

Authorities have warned that second spell of monsoon downpour could waterlog roads in the city. Meanwhile, the funds issued by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, in a meeting that he chaired after first spell raised issues, are yet to be utilized to clear drains.

However, holidays of Baldia Uzma employees have been suspended with immediate effect.

The Chief Minister had ordered immediate release of Rs 200 million for the cause.

First spell of monsoon rains had left Karachi struggling with electricity supply and inundated roads. Several areas of Karachi saw power outages out of faulty feeders in different localities.

Saadi Garden of Saadi Town was inundated after monsoon shower flooded nearby drain.

It was revealed by sources that at least 812 power feeders had tripped on Tuesday but K-Electric misled the people by disclosing 200 faults only.

Sources also said that not once in the past 100 years such a huge number of feeders tripped in one night.

Chief Minister House and Governor House had also lost power supply in one of the days then.

On the other hand, rains in different parts of Punjab today have turned the weather pleasant. More showers are expected in coming 24 hours while it would be cloudy in parts of the province, according to the Met office.
