Summary Special prayers were offered for security, progress and prosperity of the country.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Eidul Fitr is being celebrated throughout the country with great fervour and zeal.

It is after many years that the month of fasting began all over the country on same day and Eid is also being celebrated today simultaneously in every part of the country.

Eid congregations are being held at open places‚ mosques and Eidgahs in all major cities, towns and villages of the country.

In their sermons, Ulema and religious scholars highlighted the significance and philosophy of Eidul Fitr and the need to share its joys with the poor.

Special prayers were also offered for security, progress and prosperity of the country.

In the federal capital, main Eid congregation was held at Faisal Mosque.

In Lahore, Eid paryers were offered in Badshahi mosque, Qaddafi stadium and Data Ali Hajveri mosque.

Eid congregations were also held in Quetta, Peshawar, Karachi and other various cities in tight security.

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif is celebrating Eid in London with his family.

President Mamnoon Hussain offered his prayer in Faisal Mosque along with parliamentarians‚ envoys of Muslim countries and top government officials besides thousands of people.

Meanwhile, Governor Punjab offered Eid prayer in Badshahi Mosque Lahore and Governor Sindh in Polo Ground Karachi.

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif left for Waziristan to spend his day and celebrate Eid on the front lines with troops busy in operations.

On the other hand, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah offered Eid prayer in Sukkur, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in Mian Mir Darbar Lahore, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Dera Ismail Khan, PPP s Yousaf Raza Gilani and PTI s Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Multan and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N s) leader Rana Sanaullah in Faisalabad.

Security has been beefed up in different parts of the country including the federal capital to avoid any untoward incident on the auspicious occasion.

Snap checking and patrolling by law enforcing agencies have been increased.

Punjab police has declared 23 districts including Lahore as highly sensitive.

Rain also lashed various cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and others turning the weather pleasant for the people.

Eid-ul-Fitr, the religious festival of Muslims, is celebrated on the first of Shawwal according to the Muslim Hijri calendar, marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramazan.
