PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Provincial budget worth Rs 495 billion is to be presented today while government salaries are likely to be increased by 15 percent, reported Tuesday.
Provincial cabinet will give approval to the budget while Muzaffar Saeed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Finance Minister will present it in the assembly.
Rs 161 billion were recommended to be allocated for annual development projects in the province while over Rs 82 billion were asked to be reserved for provincial development programme.
It was recommended that taxes be revised while increase in taxes imposed on housing societies and other sectors is likely. Rs 33.91 billion were recommended to be reserved for district governments, Rs 17.47 billion for health and Rs 16.91 for education.
A recommendation to include as many as 225 new development projects is also a part of the budget 2016-17 documents.
At least a billion Rupees have been allocated for establishment of around 200 smart schools while Rs 12.70 billion for health insurance scheme for over a lac people.

Yesterday, Ayesha Ghaus, Punjab’s Finance Minister tabled the budget for the new fiscal year In Punjab Assembly.
The total volume of the budget presented for the year 2016-17 was Rs 1,681 billion. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha said 88 percent more funds have been allocated this year for the sake of providing clean drinking water to the people.
She added that education, health, agriculture and provision of potable water were the top priorities.
Last week, Murad Ali Shah, Sindh s Finance Minister presented Rs 869 worth of budget for the financial year 2016-17. The budget was increased to 17.5 percent while target of Rs 422 billion was set regarding tax recoveries.
