Summary Rs 15-16 lac was collected through voluntary contribution in the last fiscal year
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Department of Zakat and Ushr has collected an insufficient sum of Rs 15-16 lac in 2015-16 thus MPAs, MNAs, senators and members of Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be written to for help in the matter, reported Tuesday.
Authorities at the department concerned could not sort out for the insufficient collection and have decided to involve other government institutions to resolve the issue.
Total of Rs 15-16 lac was collected through voluntary contribution in the last fiscal year.
Sources stated that thousands of well-off families in Punjab did not contribute to the funds for the needy which is why government officials would be approached and offered to help the impoverished.
Provincial Minister for Zakat & Ushr, Malik Nadeem Kamran said that the department hiked the allowance to Rs 1,000 from the previous Rs 500 while grant issued in connection with Eidul Fitr would also see an upward revision.
District chairpersons have been tasked with making contacts with different people to financially contribute to the deposit, he said. The minister added that he would meet with different affluent persons as well.
The government provides Rs 1,000 each every month to the people with special needs and the families living under the poverty line among supporting different needs of other needy.
