Summary Protesters removed the barriers, broke empty water pitchers
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) protested over water issue by marching to Chief Minister (CM) House from Karachi Press Club on Sunday, reported Dunya News.
MQM leader Muhammad Hussain said that they had stopped outside where containers were placed on party’s instructions. He said that they would remove all barriers and protested in front of CM House had the party directed them to.
While addressing the protesters, MQM’s nominated mayor Waseem Akhtar said that Sindh government had cut off Karachi’s water and there were areas where there was no water for 10 days but the ministers got free water tankers at their places. He said that Karachi’s citizens were being punished for voting for MQM. He said that local bodies should be empowered.
MQM’s senior leader Farooq Sattar said that they had shown the trailer, the movie would be screened after Ramazan.
On the other hand, the administration placed barriers outside Commissioner House; police officials and commandos were placed around the Red Zone. However, these barriers did not stop MQM workers as they removed them despite the police force. MQM workers reached Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) Chowk but they were stopped by containers again. They climbed the containers placed in front of CM House and kicked them. Female MQM workers broke water pitchers whereas other workers threw stones at police commandos.
On CM’s directions, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) representatives talked to MQM leaders to resolve the issue and persuaded them to go back but could not succeed. A meeting is in progress at CM House to resolve the issue.
