LAHORE (Dunya News) – Teachers of public schools protesting against the government’s move of privatizing schools ended their 32 hour long sit-in Sunday in front of the Punjab Assembly at Charing Cross in Lahore after successful negotiations with government officials.

According to the details, the government school teachers had been protesting since Saturday against the delays in the upgradation of school teachers, the change in centre of excellence policy, Punjab Education Foundation, the handing over of public schools to the Danish school authorities and punishments on examination results.

Negotiations were held with the leaders of the Teachers Union by Additional Secretary Education Muhammad Akhtar on advice of Minister for Education Rana Mashood.

The teachers, who had arrived from different districts of Punjab, ended their protest in high spirits after learning that their demands had been accepted by the government’s team and officials’ assurances that the demands will be implemented.

Protesters disbanded after the negotiations and Mall road was once again opened for traffic after 32 hours.
