Summary Nisar says PM in London for medical checkup, not to meet any personality
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister of the Interior Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan stated on Wednesday that the Panama Leaks issue is related to the two sons of the Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and they themselves are to be held accountable in regards to it, the government has no role to play in the matter, reported Dunya News.
While addressing a press conference, the Interior Minister stated that it needs to be verified whether the money was taken abroad for business purposes. “If the money was taken outside the country through illegal means then this is a crime and is a violation of the law”, he said.
He added that speculations are made in regards to the PM’s visit abroad for a medical checkup. He complained that the adversaries are playing filthy politics and that they need to introspect before accusing others.
Nisar stated that the Prime Minister has not gone to the United Kingdom to meet any personality but is there for his medical checkup. He added that the PM faces issues regarding irregularity of heartbeat and that he will return to the country as soon as the doctors advise him to do so. He said PM Nawaz s appointment with his doctor was confirmed after the visit to the United States, however the appointment was cancelled after the US visit got post-ponned. Nisar said that "if the PM wanted to make an excuse, he could have travelled to London after taking part in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference in Turkey but President Mamnoon will be representing the country in the conference now."
Nisar advised that the political adversaries need not to do point scoring on this issue regarding a person s health as the matter needs to be dealt in a conscious manner as a media trial is being carried out by the adversaries.
Interior Minster stated that as soon as the Panama Papers issue surfaced, the PM ordered to make an investigation commission to probe into the matter however, he inquired that "what was the need of contacting the judges if we wanted to hide the matter?". Nisar said that the judges that were contacted to lead the commission include: Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice Tasaduq Hussain Jilani, Justice Ameer-ul-Mulk Mengal, Justice Sair Ali and Justice Tanveer Ali. He stated that out of these judges, some apologised to lead the investigation whereas the rest asked for some time to ponder regarding their decision.
Nisar said that all judges of the Supreme Court are respected figures and that as of now, they are reluctant to be a part of the investigation. He said that further judges are being contacted in this regards but he will not name them.
He inquired whether "all laws apply on the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family alone?", adding that if doing businesses abroad is illegal then it should be made illegal for all members of the National Assembly. Criticising Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Nisar said that the persons who stand on either sides of the PTI chief have also been named in the Panama Papers. He added that "it is the opposition that is making contradictions in regards to the (Panama Leaks) investigation, not the government".
He stated that Khan should decide that from whom he wants to conduct the invesigation, as progress will only be made if the matter reaches an end. He added that the government wants matters to reach their logical end.
