KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday has adjourned the hearing of contempt of court case against former Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali and 13 others till May 2.
According to details, the proceeding was postponed due to the sudden demise of senior lawyer of high court.
Earlier, Ghulam Haider Jamali was removed from the post of Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police.
According to Interior Ministry sources, three top police officials including former IG Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali, and former ADIG Finance Fida Hussain have been barred from leaving the country.
All the airports have been notified in this regard.
The development comes a day after the Supreme Court (SC) ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to investigate alleged corruption in Sindh Police and submit a report within four weeks.
During the case proceeding, the apex court had remarked that it will be inappropriate that Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) continues to hold office.
The court order came in the light of a report of three-member fact-finding committee headed by Allah Dino Khawaja. The committee was constituted to probe the allegation of corruption in illegal appointments in the police department and a lack of transparency in allocation of funds to investigation officers.
The committee had leveled serious allegations against the Sindh IGP and other senior police officers in the report.
Previously, Ghulam Haider Jamali had served as the additional IG in the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and also served as the Mirpurkhas zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.
In December 2015, Ghulam Haider Jamali and other senior police officers were also indicted by the Sindh High Court (SHC) in a contempt of court case on the petition of estranged Pakistan Peoples Party leader Dr Zulfikar Mirza for besieging the SHC and adjoining antiterrorism courts on May 19 and 23.
During the May 23 siege of the SHC, uniformed and plain-clothes personnel had used force to arrest a number of associates of Dr Mirza who, along with him, appeared in court to seek confirmation of their pre-arrest bail in several cases.
Zulfiqar Mirza’s guards and some of his associates, as well as media persons, were tortured at the main gate of the court’s building. Several vehicles parked in the area and media personnel’s cameras were also damaged during the action.
