Summary Operation will be conducted if negotiations with the protesters fail for a second time
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal government on Tuesday decided to conduct an operation against the protestors who have arranged a sit-in at D-Chowk, right in front of the Parliament house for the past three days, reported Dunya News.
The negotiations held been the district government and the members of the sit-in belonging to a religious party held yesterday proved to be fruitless as the government decided to act against the demonstrators.
Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan briefed Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif regarding the on-going developments in the capital city. It was decided to negotiate with the protestors for another time, however if the negotiations fail then the operation will be carried out against the demonstrators.
Sources indicate that the operation will be initiated anytime tonight and that the preparations for the operation have been made.
Members of Frontier Corps (FC), Punjab and Islamabad police, who are estimated to be around 7 thousand in number, will actively take part in the operation, furthermore pack of troops belonging to Policeline Headquarters will reach the Red Zone at evening. Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Sajid Kiyani will be heading the operation. Sources from the District administration stated that all prison vans belonging to the district will also reach the Red Zone area.
The mobile phone service in the city has been terminated since the sit-in began a couple of days ago. All roads leading to the Red Zone area have been cordoned off.
Army personnel have been deployed outside sensitive buildings in the area, such as the Parliament house, Aiwan-e-Saddar, Prime Minister house and the Supreme Court building. Members of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) commandos and Rangers will be responsible for the security of these buildings.
Members of police have been deployed across D-Chowk area. Metro bus service in the city has also been halted as the enraged protestors damaged one of the Metro bus stations two days ago.
Security checking has been significantly increased at the entrance and exit points of the capital city.
