LAHORE (Dunya News) – A petition seeking Rangers deployment in Punjab has been filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) today (Monday).

Keeping in view the increasing terror attacks, a local Muneer Ahmed approached LHC and filed a plea seeking Rangers deployment in the metropolis.

The formal request stated that Punjab province is having inappropriate security arrangements at official and public places and no operation is being launched against outlawed organizations to eliminate the attacks.

The plaintiff urged the court to hand over security of the province to Rangers personnel so that they would start indiscriminate action against the criminals.

Earlier on Sunday evening, at least 72 people were killed and hundreds injured, many of them children, when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded park in Lahore.

Explosives packed with ball bearings ripped through crowds near a Gulshan Iqbal Park’s play area, leaving dozens dead or bloodied.

Witnesses described children screaming as people carried the injured in their arms, while frantic relatives searched for loved ones.

Officials said the toll -- already the highest in an attack this year -- was expected to rise. A Lahore rescue official confirmed 72 people were dead, and said the number of injured stood at 340.
