Pakistan offers to host talks between Taliban, Afghan govt

Summary First round of one-on-one talks between both parties to begin in first week of March

ISLAMABAD (Dunya news) – Pakistan has offered to host the one-on-one dialogue between the Afghan government and the Taliban, reported Dunya News.

The suggestion was placed forward during the quadrilateral meeting regarding restoration of peace in Afghanistan that took place in Kabul on Tuesday.

The first round of dialogue between the Taliban and the Afghan government is expected to take place in the first week of March. The Pak-Afghan working group will seek support from the religious scholars of both countries regarding the talks.

Representatives from the United States, China, Russia and Afghanistan were also present in the meeting that took place in the Afghan capital.

The delegates lauded Afghan president Ashraf Ghani’s initiatives to restore peace in the country. The role of the Pak-Afghan working group in order to gain support from the religious scholars has also been appreciated. The next round of talks will be held in Islamabad right after the one-on-one dialogue.
