KARACHI (Dunya News) – Scheme to provide monthly scholarships to girl students of class-I to class-VI has been launched in entire Sindh, Dunya News reported Thursday.

In the first phase, at least 320 students were given ATM cards.

The initiative has been taken by Sindh’s Education Department for female students in the government schools. In the first phase, at least 320 students from different schools in Karachi will be given Rs 2,500 per month.

Education Minister Nisar Khuhro, while addressing a gathering in this regard said that Rs 1 billion budget has been allocated for the purpose in the ongoing fiscal year.

In the second phase, he said that 1.64 lac students belonging to interior Sindh and far flung areas would be given scholarships through easy paisa. He said that ATM cards and easy paisa would be used to make the transference of government’s funds transparent.

He said that the scholarships would increase women literacy rate in remote and other areas.
