Summary Security guards at campus showed exemplary resistance during attack but didn’t have enough weapons
CHARSADDA: (Dunya News) – There were only 17 untrained guards present at the time of attack on Bacha Khan University (BKU) in Charsadda. The security guards had put up exemplary resistance against the attackers during the attack but didn’t have enough arms to fight the terrorists. Besides, they were not trained properly for combating terrorism, reported Dunya News.
According to the details, the total number of guards at BKU is 56, who work in 3 shifts. At the time when 4 terrorists entered the university, 17 guards were on duty. However, none of the guards was properly trained for combating terrorism nor were they armed with any modern weapons.
Despite the inapt weapons and insufficient training, it was the valour of the guards that held the terrorists and didn’t allow them to move forward. These guards put up a stiff resistance before the arrival of the police and army.
The students at the BKU are also feeling threatened after the attack and demand the security of the university to be handed to the army.
Private security guards have been deployed at the university campus but there is no scale for the check and balance of the training they receive.
Security guards of all the universities in the terror-stricken province have neither the arms nor the training to combat the terrorists.
