Summary Ordinance for PIA privatization cancelled upon senate resolution, new options under consideration

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Senate resolution against the privatization of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has on Friday worked as the ordinance for the privatization of PIA has been cancelled and new options are now under consideration, reported Dunya News.

Senate’s resolution really worked as the government’s plan to privatize PIA suffered a major setback since the ordinance of the privatization has been cancelled and new options are now under consideration.

According to government sources, the presidential ordinance to turn PIA from a corporation into a public limited company has become ineffective after the resolution passed against it in Senate. The government has now started looking for other options for its privatization.

Sources told that the joint session of the parliament may be called after getting the privatization bill passed from the National Assembly. Legal cover will be secured by getting a resolution passed by simple majority of the joint session.
