KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has tabled a bill seeking powers for Mayor in the Sindh Assembly while announcing to begin ‘constitutional struggle to get the upcoming mayor their due authority, Dunya News reported.
According to details, the MQM has tabled an amendment bill in the Assembly. In the Amendment Bill, MQM recommends removing clause of Sindh Assembly’s speaker’s power to appoint Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s vice chairman.
It is stated in the bill that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Mayor is also the chairman of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board; however, it said, the appointment of vice chairman is Speaker Provincial Assembly’s authority.
The bill said any member of Sindh Assembly can end up being on that position therefore this clause needs to be removed.
