Summary General Shareef also invited the Brazilian Defence Minister for a visit to Pakistan.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Shareef on Tuesday met with the Brazilian Defence Minister Aldo Rebelo in Brasilia, Brazil. Matters of mutual interest including promotion of defence cooperation were discussed during the meeting. Speaking on the matter, the Army Chief stated that Pakistan wants to further stimulate its cooperation with Brazil.
General Shareef also invited the Brazilian Defence Minister for a visit to Pakistan.
Pakistan already has mutually cooperative agreements with Brazil on matters pertaining to training and development.
General Shareef is on a 3 day visit to the South American city. He was welcomed by Defence Minister Rebelo on his arrival.
The Army Chief is also scheduled for a one day visit to the Ivory Coast to meet Pakistani soldiers stationed for a United Nations (UN) mission.
Prior to his visit to Brazil, General Shareef was earlier on a 5 day visit to the US where he met the top civil and military leadership of the country. The Army Chief discussed defence cooperation, strengthening military to military relations, regional security, need for enhanced coordination and increased training exchanges during meeting with top US military officials.
During the meeting, Defence Minister Ashton Carter lauded Pakistan’s successes in the war against terrorism and stated that effective results of Operation Zarb-e-Azb were being seen.
He further stated that Pakistan was a significant ally and US will continue its support for the country in the fight against terrorism.
The Army Chief also met with US Secretary of State John Kerry during his visit.
