Summary SEPCO could file FIR only against 27 electricity thieves out of 5 lac: Chief Officer SEPCO

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -- Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) Chief Officer said on Wednesday that the department arrested electricity thieves with so much effort but Interior Minister Sindh ordered to release them. He made the statement before National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) during the hearing of price hike case of SEPCO, reported Dunya News.

According to details, Chief Officer SEPCO told the court that they could file FIRs only against 27 consumers out of 5 lac. Answering court’s inquiry about price hike, NEPRA was told that SEPCO has sent a summary to increase the tariff by 4 to 8 rupees per unit for domestic users while 8 rupees for commercial and agriculture consumers. According to SEPCO, Sindh government is not agreed to pay arrears of 39 billion rupees.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SEPCO Muzaffar Abbasi said that they have waived off the arrears worth 9 billion rupees on the request of the Council of Common Interest (CCI). He said that those who are consuming electricity by using hooks can get a meter installed in just 150 rupees now and SEPCO will give them relief by allowing them to pay their arrears in 20 installments. NEPRA reserved the verdict on the case.

Female protesters on Thursday staged a demonstration outside Sukkur Electric Supply Company (Sepco) office over non-availability of electricity in Sukkur.

According to details, the transformer of Agha Badruddin colony burnt five months ago and has not been changed by the authorities till date as a result of which the agitated females took to street to protest against the mismanagement.

The women burnt tyres outside the Sepco office and raised slogans against the officials whereas one of the females entered the office and ransacked the property.

The protesters accused the authorities of not installing the transformer despite repeated complaints rather the Sepco officials are demanding money to change it.
