Summary Results for 1350 seats of Punjab and 743 seats of Sindh were announced.

Lahore (Dunya News) – The Local Government elections for Punjab and Sindh were marked by some major upsets and zealous celebrations all across the provinces as fifty percents results of the Local Government Elections (LGE) were announced on Saturday. The results for 1350 seats of Punjab out of 2687 were made public while in Sindh victorious candidates of 743 seats out of a total of 1484 were disclosed.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) remained on top of its game as the “Lion” consolidated its power once again by leading the poll count in Punjab. PML-N inflicted a crushing defeat on its prime rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) winning 186 seats from Lahore. The results of 217 seats for Lahore’s Municipal Corporation out of a total of 274 were announced. Celebrations broke out on the streets with PML-N supporters dancing in the streets enraptured by their party’s triumph. Overall, 645 candidates of PML-N were successful in winning seats throughout Punjab. 21 independent candidates were also declared triumphant . PTI won a total of 125 seats from the province while 30 candidates of Pakistan People’s Party were successful in winning seats from Punjab.

On the other hand, PPP led the poll count from Sindh with a total of 541 seats in the Sindh province. 4 seats were won by PTI, 4 by PML-N and 4 by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) while 150 independent candidates tasted victory. 56 candidates of Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) were victorious while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) won 11 seats.



The well established rules of many were wracked by major upsets as the results flooded in. The most significant victim of such an upset was the Sher Ali group in Faisalabad who was hit hard by the results as their candidate Federal Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali’s brother and PML-N leader Chaudhary Sher Ali’s son Amir Sher Ali lost the voting battle to his bitter rival, the candidate of Provinicial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah’s group.Sanaullah gorup’s candidate Ashiq Rehmani caused the powerful upset by gaining 2291 votes while Sher Ali managed 2117. Amir Sher Ali was to contest the city’s Mayorship elections if he had managed to win.

Meanwhile in Vehari district all 3 brothers of PML-N’s Member of Parliament Assembly (MPA)Yousaf Kasilia failed to bag a seat . Younas, Abid and Tariq Kasilia stood as independent candidates for the election from Gagu Mandi area but failed to make an impression with the voters.

Asim Zafar, son of renowned lawyer S.M Zafar was also unsuccessful in grabbing the voters attention in Lahore.

In Sukkur, Dr Nasrullah Baloch who has been elected twice as MPA also suffered defeat during the LB election.

Former Member Sindh Assembly and PPP Sukkur’s General Secretary Syed Javed Shah failed to achieve success with the votes.

Former Member Sindh Assembly Ghulam Qadir Bhutto’s son Nadeem Qadir suffered a crushing defeat as well.

In Lahore, PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s Chief of Staff Aun Chaudhary failed in impressing the voters while Chaudhary’s brother Chaudary Amin was defeated by PML-N’s Khurram Naveed by 70 votes. In Union Council (UC) 213 Kashmir Block, opposition leader Punjab Mehmood-ur-Rasheed’s nephew also lost the election.

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Shahbaz Sharif’s cousin Arif Hameed Butt won the election with 3027 votes.

3 former Members of Punjab Assembly were successful and have been designated as Chairman of Union Councils.
