Summary Opposition and farmers were raising voices for a long time but the government paid no heed, he said
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday said while rejecting Prime Minister’s package for farmers that the ‘so called package’ is a ‘political gimmick’ ahead of local body elections, Dunya News reported.
The opposition and farmers were raising voices for a long time but the government paid no heed, he said.
In a statement, Zardari said that the government has announced the farmers’ package immediately after the schedule for the local body elections was announced.
He said he was disappointed over the relief package announced by the prime minister because “it is not only insufficient but also very late”.
The former president said that the government ignored farmers’ request for subsidy on production. He praised Sindh government in his statement and said the provincial government not only helps the farmers financially but also provides seeds and fertilizers for free.
