ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – A meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the federal capital on Thursday decided to approve the ban on the export of donkey skin as there has been an alarming rise in the export. The ban will sustain till further order. Donkey skin is more expensive compared to the donkey itself and the butchers had been making money by killing the donkeys and exporting their skin, reported Dunya News.

The committee also directed making of new laws regarding dumping of the donkey meat and waste. On the other hand, sources claim that the export of donkey skins has increased from 70,000 last year to 150,000 this year. The donkey skin is priced, at an average, at Rs. 11,500 while China, Vietnam and Thailand are the largest importers of Pakistani donkeys’ skins.

It is interesting that the number of donkeys is increasing by 100,000 annually due to profitable business. According to economic survey, the number of donkeys has increased from 4.5 million to 5 million during the last 5 years.
