Punjab, Sindh govts not ready to conduct LB polls in October

Summary ECP will present the stance of the provinces in Supreme Court (SC) tomorrow.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A high level meeting of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding Punjab and Sindh local bodies election was conducted today (Monday) in Islamabad, Dunya News reported.

The meeting was headed by chief election commissioner Sardar Raza Khan and was attended by Punjab and Sindh’s chief secretaries, secretaries, additional secretaries and officers of election wing.

Sources report that provincial governments could not agree to conduct LB polls in October. Punjab and Sindh governments are of the view that security officials will not be available for the LB polls due to Ashura Muharram. Besides this because of flood situation the elections should be held either in November or December.

Moreover, ECP will present the stance of the provinces in Supreme Court (SC) tomorrow.
