Summary Prime Minister chaired meeting of parliamentary leaders to discuss judicial commission's report.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the parliamentary leaders in Islamabad to discuss future strategy after judicial commission’s report on alleged rigging in 2013 general elections.
The meeting was attended by Syed Khursheed Shah, Maulana Fazalur Rehman, Rasheed Gudial, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Ijaz ul Haq, Sirajul Haq, Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Mushahid Hussain Syed.
On the occasion, the participants discussed resolutions submitted by MQM and JUI-F in the National Assembly regarding the issue of de-seating PTI members of the National Assembly who remained absent from the Lower House over 40 days.
According to sources, majority of parliamentary leaders opposed the move to de-seat PTI lawmakers. The PML-N has agreed at PTI’s face-saving.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) members have sought one-day time for withdrawal of their resolutions against Imran Khan’s party.
Talking to media after the meeting, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid said the Prime Minister has assigned a task to him, Ishaq Dar, Saad Rafique, and Advisor to the Prime Minister Irfan Siddiqui to hold meeting with MQM and JUI (F) to persuade them to withdraw their resolutions from the National Assembly.
To a question, the minister stated that the matter regarding resignations of PTI members will be resolved within the parameters of the constitution.
